How I work

I offer day and evening sessions and I occasionally have some weekend slots. The work I do is based predominantly around the following theories: Person Centred/Humanistic, Psychodynamic and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy).

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a collaborative therapy that helps you to become aware of, and then change any negative or destructive patterns of thought or behaviour, that are getting in the way of you leading a healthy and fulfilling life.

Although it is most commonly known for its use it treating anxiety and depression, it is also used to treat a wide range of other conditions, including, panic attacks, addictions, eating disorders, phobias and anger issues.

CBT uses a wide range of techniques and strategies, that can help you to identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviours. These include uncovering and seeing negative thoughts for what they are, and how exactly they are impacting your life, replacing old behaviours with new coping skills, setting small, safe and achievable goals, and learning problem solving skills to reduce the impact of mental and physical illnesses.

In therapy, I may incorporate CBT exercises and strategies to help you address and work through issues, that are affecting you in the present. This will involve giving you tools that you can take away from the session and put into practice in your daily life.
