Person Centred Therapy
The Person Centred Counselling approach ensures you are kept at the heart of the counselling work. You decide what you want to talk about in sessions and the feelings you'd like to explore. It was developed in the 1940s and 50s, by Carl Rogers, a psychologist who believed that therapy should be warmer and more positive.
Rogers firmly believed that no matter how negative or painful their environment has been, the potential for healing, growth and change was present and possible within each individual, if the right core conditions are provided by the therapist. He also believed that within a person was something called a ' self-actualising tendency', which means an instinctive desire ( however small or hidden at first) to strive towards growth and eventually fulfil their potential.
I'll create a confidential and non-judgmental environment so that you can feel safe, supported and able to express your thoughts and emotions even if at times, this might feel tough. I hope that through growing a trusted and collaborative relationship, you'll feel heard and empowered to regain control, find clarity and make any changes that feel right for you.
The ethos of Person Centred Therapy informs my practice at all times.
